Ingredients

  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup light corn syrup
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • Yellow and orange food coloring

Instructions

  1. Combine ingredients in a medium saucepan, mixing granulated sugar, corn syrup, unsalted butter, salt, and baking powder. Cook over medium heat while stirring until dissolved.
  2. Boil the mixture, allowing it to boil without stirring until a candy thermometer reads 250°F (121°C).
  3. Add vanilla extract and stir carefully as it will bubble.
  4. Incorporate powdered sugar gradually, mixing until fully combined.
  5. Divide the mixture into three equal portions, coloring two with food coloring.
  6. Shape each portion into triangles, mimicking traditional candy corn form.
  7. Cool the shaped candy corn completely on a wax paper-lined tray.

Notes

Use a candy thermometer for accuracy and work quickly to shape the candies before they set.
