  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • Buttercream frosting (green, orange, purple)
  • Decorative candies (eyeballs, gummy worms, etc.)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease your cake pans with a light coat of butter or cooking spray.
  2. Mix the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a large bowl. Gently whisk until uniform.
  3. Add the eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla to the dry ingredients. Mix until well combined and smooth.
  4. Combine the boiling water into the batter until completely smooth.
  5. Bake the batter evenly into the greased pans for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Cool the cakes in the pans for about 10 minutes, then turn them out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
  7. Decorate the cooled cakes with colorful buttercream and spooky candies.

Notes

For a lighter texture, consider using cake flour instead of all-purpose flour. You can also substitute vegetable oil with melted butter for a richer flavor.
