Ingredients
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 ½ cups sugar
½ cup unsalted butter, softened
1 cup whole milk
4 large eggs
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Food coloring (various colors)
1 cup unsalted butter, softened (for frosting)
4 cups powdered sugar
2 tablespoons heavy cream or milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for frosting)
Candy eyes
Colorful sprinkles
Fondant or modeling chocolate (optional)
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
Mix the flour, baking powder, and sugar in a bowl until well blended. Set aside.
Cream the softened butter until creamy. Gradually add the sugar, continuing to cream until light and fluffy.
Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Then, add the milk and vanilla extract, mixing until fully incorporated.
Combine the dry ingredient mixture with the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined and smooth.
Color the batter by dividing it into bowls based on the desired colors and adding food coloring to each bowl.
Bake the colored batter in the prepared cake pans for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
Cool the cakes in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
Prepare the buttercream frosting by beating softened butter until creamy, then gradually adding powdered sugar, heavy cream, and vanilla extract until fluffy.
Assemble the cake by placing one layer on a serving plate, frosting it, adding the second layer, and frosting the top and sides.
Decorate with candy eyes and colorful sprinkles to create a fun monster face.
